Apportionment Certification Reminder

In early September, the CAHSEE Apportionment Information Report for the 2006–07 school year was mailed to county and district superintendents and charter school administrators. To receive these apportionments, the superintendent or administrator must certify the accuracy of this report by signing and dating the report, then returning it to the CDE Standards and Assessment Division. The certified reports must be postmarked by December 31, 2007. Certified reports received after this date must be accompanied by a waiver request as provided by California Education Code Section 33050. Currently, fewer than half of all local educational agencies (LEAs) have returned their certified reports to CDE.

Final Data Correction Opportunity

The final window for making corrections to the 2006–07 CAHSEE demographic data closes on November 16. Corrections can be made on the ETS secure Web site (Outside Source). Questions about making demographic data corrections should be directed to ETS at 1-800-241-5687.

Important Information about Administering the CAHSEE

The recent passage of the 2007-08 Budget Act included language that allows grade 12 students to take the high school exit examination up to five times per school year. Grade 11 students may take the CAHSEE two times a school year and grade 10 students are required to take one administration of the CAHSEE during the census period. The Standards and Assessment Division, CAHSEE Office will provide more information in next few weeks.

Update on Valenzuela Settlement - Assembly Bill 347

On October 12, 2007, Governor Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 347. This new law ensures that students who complete all other graduation requirements yet fail to pass the CAHSEE may receive an additional two years of academic assistance from their school districts.
