February 2008	Participating districts, charter schools, private schools, and professional organizations distribute applications and organize local Teacher of the Year recognition activities.
February - September 2008	County offices of education conduct regional selection and recognition processes for district finalists.
Friday September 5, 2008, by 5:00 p.m.	Deadline for county offices of education to submit applications to the California Department of Education.
September 17-26, 2008	The state selection committee -- made up of teachers, administrators, and organization representatives -- reviews applications.
September 15 - October 1, 2008	County offices of education are contacted to arrange site visits for selected applicants.
October 1-23, 2008	Site visits are conducted by a team of teacher-observers.
October 24 - November 7, 2008	Selected applicants are interviewed by a state selection committee that includes the State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell or his designee.
November 2008	Applicants not selected for a site visit receive a certificate of appreciation.
November 1-14, 2008	State Superintendent Jack O'Connell makes the final decisions and personally notifies the California Teachers of the Year.
November 6-21, 2008	The California Department of Education (CDE) publicly announces 2009 California Teachers of the Year in a news release.
November 19-21, 2008	County offices of education submit applications and photographs of the California Teachers of the Year to CDE.
November 2008	The Council of Chief State School Officers is notified of California's nominee for the National Teacher of the Year Program.
December 2008	California Teachers of the Year meet at the CDE in Sacramento to be photographed and to learn more about their role as statewide representatives of the profession.
December 5, 2008	County offices of education submit photographs, site visit photos, and classroom setting video clips of the California Teachers of the Year to CDE.
February 2009	California Teachers of the Year and semi-finalists are honored at a special reception and dinner in Sacramento hosted by the CDE, the California Teachers of the Year Foundation, and sponsors.
