An Alternative Schools Accountability Model (ASAM) appeal challenges an ASAM performance standard designation (Commendable, Sufficient, Growth Plan, and Immediate Action). Appeal forms can be submitted, with supporting evidence and documentation, when one of the three categories described below applies. Lack of documentation or description of the evidence will result in a denial of the appeal. Documentation and evidence should not exceed 500 words (excluding relevant data). Please delete or obscure any student names in supporting evidence or documentation.

Appeals must be submitted to the Evaluation, Research and Analysis Unit no later than December 31.

Grounds for Submitting an Appeal for an Indicator Performance Standard
  1. ASAM data reported to the CDE was erroneous or inaccurate. Schools may appeal the performance standard when indicator data submitted are found to be inaccurate. Schools must document the error and submit revised data so that their performance levels can be recalculated and revised.

  2. The CDE made a calculation error. When data reported to the CDE are accurate, but the school believes the performance standard was determined incorrectly from those data, schools may submit an appeal.

  3. An emergency, uncontrollable, or special circumstance occurred at the school site resulting in no data or incorrect data being submitted. When a traumatic circumstance, such as a natural disaster, medical emergency affecting the school, school closure, or another compelling reason occurred, the school may appeal its indicator performance standard status.

The Appeal of ASAM School Report Performance Standard (DOC; 59KB; 1p.) form must be completed, signed, and submitted with supporting documentation.
