Purpose
The purpose of the Braille Reimbursement Program is to help local education agencies acquire braille textbooks needed by students who are blind.
Requirements
- Each SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area) wishing to participate in the Braille Reimbursement Program must file an annual letter of intent with the California Department of Education's (CDE) Clearinghouse for Specialized Media and Technology (CSMT).
- Prior to purchasing a Braille book, a query must be posted on the CDE's Braille-N-Teach e-mail listserv to determine if the Braille book is available on loan from another program.
- Each SELPA wishing to be reimbursed for Braille purchases must submit an annual claim, copies of invoices paid during the fiscal year, and copies of requests to borrow books that were posted on CDE's Braille-N-Teach list service.
