Chief Business Officer (CBO) Training

Incentive funding for school districts, county offices of education, and direct-funded charter schools to send their CBO or CBO candidates to training provided by state-qualified training providers.

The CBO Training Program, administered by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, with the approval of the State Board of Education (SBE), provides incentive funding to school districts, county offices of education, and direct-funded charter schools to send their CBOs or CBO candidates to training provided by state-qualified training providers. Training and instruction must include, but is not limited to, the areas of school finance, school operations, and leadership. The CBO Training Program is in response to the recent increase in the number of local educational agencies (LEAs) experiencing financial difficulty and the shortage of experienced and well-qualified CBOs. This is a three-year program and provides for training of up to 350 candidates per year in the amount of $3,000 per eligible training candidate. (See Superintendent Jack O'Connell's letter, dated March 22, 2006.)

Information for Training Providers

The Application Request presents criteria, requirements, and information concerning SBE approval of state-qualified CBO training providers. The SBE approved the criteria and requirements for training providers at their March 2006 meeting. The first state-qualified training providers were approved at the SBE's May 2006 meeting.

Information for CBO Training Candidates

The online application for school districts, county offices of education and direct-funded charter schools to request incentive funding and training for their CBOs or CBO candidates or to substitute previously approved candidates or the selected training provider was made available following SBE approval of state-qualified training providers. Incentive funding is contingent upon state budget availability and will be allocated upon review of application requests and approval of the training candidates by the SBE. For more information, see Request for Applications for LEAs.
