SACRAMENTO — The California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) announced today it has recognized State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell with the annual CCSESA Executive Leadership Award.
"Jack O'Connell's leadership and vision for the future of public education has been crucial during these tough budget times," said CCSESA President John D. Anderson (Imperial County Superintendent). "County superintendents appreciate his support and advocacy on behalf of California's students and look forward to continued efforts to improve our schools."
The award is given to an individual whose contributions through executive leadership have advanced county office of education programs. County superintendents have developed a strong relationship with Superintendent O'Connell and the Department of Education furthering efforts to improve the public school system. O'Connell's efforts at the regional, state, and national levels demonstrate his clear understanding of the duties and responsibilities of county offices of education. Most recently, O'Connell stressed the importance of 58 county offices of education in a letter to Governor Schwarzenegger citing his concerns about the California Performance Review's recommendation to regionalize county offices of education.
