The Nutrition Services Division (NSD) is pleased to provide resources and optional training to assist you with implementation of the Child Nutrition Information and Payment System (CNIPS).
The CDE CNIPS Web page includes Frequently Asked Questions and updates on the system. The CNIPS Help Desk is currently responding to e-mail messages at CNIPS@cde.ca.gov, and plans to offer telephone assistance beginning August 18, 2008. In addition to the integrated help feature in the CNIPS, a comprehensive School Nutrition Programs (SNP) User Manual is being developed. All SNP sponsors will be able to download a copy after August 25, 2008, from the CNIPS home page.
Sponsor training is not required. We conducted a CNIPS training survey earlier this summer and, based upon what we heard from SNP sponsors, we are offering both live and recorded training for interested sponsors.

Live Training
The live training includes classroom computer and Web-based sessions. Sponsors can request to send staff to both types of training. Registrants interested in both classroom computer and Web-based training must submit a separate registration form for each.
Classroom Training
We designed classroom computer sessions for School Nutrition Programs (SNP) staff with less computer experience or those who prefer “hands on” training. It requires a full-day attendance and there is no cost. Since the number of training locations and computer stations at each site are limited, the NSD is asking sponsors to limit the number of staff who register for training to one. Additional personnel may be added to the registration form, and will be enrolled as space permits. The NSD will prioritize training registration for National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) sponsors based on the date and time the registration is received by the NSD. The Classroom Computer Training Registration Form (DOC; 74KB; 1p.) provides registration procedures. This training begins August 19, 2008.
Web-Based Training
There are two types of Web-based training – desktop and workshop.
Desktop Webinar
Participants view a live presentation from their computer and receive the audio component via their telephone (incurring a long distance telephone charge for the duration of the training). The estimated time for each Webinar session is two hours. Since the number of participants is limited with this type of training, the NSD is asking sponsors to limit the number of staff who register for training to one. Additional personnel may be added to the registration form, and will be enrolled as space permits. To register, please complete and submit the Desktop Webinar Training Registration Form (DOC; 57KB; 1p.). The NSD will prioritize training registration for NSLP and SBP sponsors based on the date and time the registration is received by the NSD. This training begins August 26, 2008.
Webinar Workshop
Participants view the Webinar in a classroom setting at an alternative location, such as a local school district, at no cost. CDE staff will be available at the site to provide assistance and answer questions. Sponsor participation in the Webinar workshop is limited to available space. To register, please complete and submit the Webinar Workshop Training Registration Form (DOC; 69KB; 1p.). Additional information and the registration form will be available soon. The NSD will prioritize training registration for NSLP and SBP sponsors based on the date and time the registration is received by the NSD. This training begins August 26, 2008.
Recorded Training
This training includes an introductory Powerpoint presentation with an audio component and software simulation or “how to” videos for the key components of the CNIPS. The software simulation videos are approximately five to fifteen minutes in length.
NOTE: These software simulation videos use Adobe Flash Player, providing an easy-to-use interface for learning the CNIPS. We recommend downloading the most current version of Adobe Flash Player to view these videos from Adobe Flash Player (Outside Source).
