Publisher Contact with CRP/IMAP Members

Publishers shall not contact CRP or IMAP members to discuss anything related to the evaluation of the submissions or the potential inclusion of submissions on the list of adopted instructional materials. The exceptions are during the specified times in the Schedule of Significant Events (training and deliberations) when contact shall be made in the prescribed manner. CRP and IMAP members are required to report any inappropriate contact to the California Department of Education (CDE). Such inappropriate contact may lead to disqualification of a publisher’s submission(s) from further consideration in the 2006 Science Primary Adoption, legal action, or both.

However, publishers may continue to contact those CRP and IMAP members with whom they have meetings in the normal course of the members’ school district, county office of education, local school board, or work-related duties. CRP and IMAP members shall not discuss any submission(s) under consideration with publishers.

A list of the CRP and IMAP members participating in this adoption is enclosed
Attachment B [http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/sc/im/attachb06science.asp]

Publisher Presentations

Publisher Presentations will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2006, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Publishers have been allocated time for their presentation on the following basis:

  • Presentation Period
Publishers submitting programs with 2-3 grade levels have 45 minutes to present their program. Publishers submitting programs with 6-7 grade levels have 60 minutes to present their program.
  • Question-And-Answer Period
Ten minutes have been allocated for the question and answer period. The question and answer period may be used only for this purpose.
  • CRP/IMAP Discussion Period
Five minutes have been allocated for IMAP and CRP members to discuss the program.

A detailed schedule of the presentation time and location for publisher presentations is enclosed as Attachment C [http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/sc/im/documents/pubpresenattc.doc] (DOC; 49KB; 2pp.)

All presentations have been scheduled on one day, Thursday, March 30, 2006. All rooms are located at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West, 2200 Harvard Street, Sacramento, CA 95815.

  • Publishers will have thirty minutes to set up their programs. A room is reserved for each program presentation.
  • During the presentations, all persons in the room are asked to turn off pagers and cell phones. Such items are a distraction to the presenters and to the IMAP and CRP members.

Enclosed are two additional attachments:

  • Attachment D [http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/sc/im/pubpresattd.asp] – Presentation Preparation Guidelines for Publishers
  • Attachment E [http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/sc/im/pubbullatte.asp] – Presentation Guidelines for Publishers on the Day of the Presentation

The CRP and IMAP members will be assured of a professionally rewarding experience as publishers observe these guidelines and work in collaboration with the Curriculum Commission and the CDE staff on the day of presentations.

Equipment Needs

Publishers are responsible for providing the equipment they need during their presentations or making arrangements with the hotel to provide the equipment; this includes internet access if you require it for your presentation. Publishers should ensure that they have enough staff to set-up instructional materials displays in the allotted time, and clear the displays from the room following the presentations. In planning your presentation, please remember that most of the rooms are small conference rooms.

If you have any questions about the publisher presentations or your assigned time, or if you are unable to participate in the scheduled publisher presentations, please contact Suzanne Rios, Administrator, Instructional Resources Unit, at 916-319-0665 or by e-mail at srios@cde.ca.gov. You may also contact Patrice Roseboom, Lead Consultant, Instructional Resources Unit, at 916-319-0509 or by e-mail at proseboo@cde.ca.gov.

We are looking forward to working with you on this adoption and appreciate your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Thomas Adams, Director
Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division
