Date: May 30, 2006
This bulletin contains information about the IMAP/CRP deliberations for the 2006 Science Primary Adoption.
The deliberations for the 2006 Science Primary Adoption will be held July 10–July 13, 2006, at the following location:
Please plan to arrive at the East End Complex for the general session by 8:45 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2006. The general session will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the auditorium, but you will be spending most of the deliberations in your panel room.
If you fly into Sacramento, you may make your return airline reservation anytime after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2006. It is possible that your panel may finish early; you should have a better idea of when your panel’s work will be concluded by the second day of deliberations. Remember that a state ticket purchased through Sacramento Travel can be changed at any time.
You may make your flight reservations anytime after June 1, 2006. Please note that you must reserve your flights through Sacramento Travel. You cannot use your own travel agent.
Instructions for placing your reservation are as follows:
CDE has reserved hotel rooms for the deliberations at:
Hotel rooms will be provided for the nights of July 9, 10, 11, and 12. Note that because we are starting at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, July 10, we have booked a room for you for the night before, Sunday, July 9. If you stayed at the hotel for the training in March, you have already been added to the rooming list for the deliberations. Do not contact the hotel to confirm your reservation. This procedure is different from the Hilton hotel that we used for the training. When you check-in just give them your last name. You may need to give the hotel your credit card number for incidental charges when you check in, but the cost of the room will be paid directly by the CDE.
Please contact Patrice Roseboom at 916-319-0509 at least seventy-two hours in advance of your arrival date if you will not need your room so that we can notify the hotel. Also contact Patrice if you have any questions about lodging or whether you are eligible for a hotel room. Please note that we cannot arrange for alternative lodging for you if you cannot stay at the assigned hotel.
Private car mileage will be reimbursed at the rate of thirty-four cents per mile. Please be aware that travel expenses are reimbursed at the rate that is of least expense to the state. If it is less expensive to travel by air than by private car, then that is the rate at which you will be reimbursed.
You may use the shuttle or a taxi to arrive at and depart from the hotel. It is recommended that, whenever possible, the most economical means of transportation (normally a shuttle as opposed to a taxi) be used for travel between points. Please submit all taxi and shuttle receipts. If you have misplaced your receipt, you may claim up to $10 per trip for transportation. The state does not reimburse for car rentals.
The hotel is located approximately 0.7 miles from the deliberations site. Sacramento can get very hot in July, so if you prefer not to walk or drive, you may use public transportation or hire a cab for the trip. If you do use a cab, we recommend that you share it with other IMAP/CRP members if possible.
There is also a local shuttle bus (route 143) that stops approximately one block from the hotel and also directly in front of 1500 Capitol Avenue. The fare for the Central City Zone is $1.00 for each trip. More information can be found at http://www.sacrt.com/schedules/current/routes/R143.htm (Outside Source).
Unfortunately there is no public parking lot adjacent to the training site at 1500 Capitol Avenue. There is a list of city garages in the area on the city’s Web site at http://www.cityofsacramento.org/transportation/parking/offstreet.html (Outside Source). Click on the PDF "map" link. The East End Center is at the east end of Capitol Park. The nearest city garage is on the far side of the park at the northwest corner (11th and L Streets). There is also a private garage on K Street between 15th and 16th Streets.
There are some long-term (10 hour/$.50 per hour) parking meters in the area. There is a map (click on "Long Term Meter Location Map") on the city’s Web site at http://www.cityofsacramento.org/transportation/parking/onstreetmaps.html (Outside Source). The long-term parking meters around Fremont Park (between 15th and 16th Streets and P and Q Streets) generally fill up by 8 a.m. The park is two blocks from the deliberations site.
Keep your receipts for parking that costs more than $10, in order to guarantee reimbursement. Anything under $10/day does not require a receipt.
Please do not forget to bring your notes, citations, and publisher questions with you to the deliberations. Clear, accurate citations will facilitate the work of the IMAP/CRP panel.
Complete copies of the programs that you reviewed will be set up in your panel room; you do not need to bring the instructional materials with you to Sacramento.
The Note-Taking Guide for the 2006 Science Primary Adoption can be downloaded from the CDE Web site at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/sc/im/. Remember that this document is for your personal notes and is not considered a public document. You may want to use the Note-Taking Guide to record citations, questions for the publishers, and minor edits and corrections you find in each program as you are reviewing it.
Remember that your legal and social compliance citation forms are due to CDE by June 16, 2006. If you need additional forms, please contact Patrice Roseboom at proseboo@cde.ca.gov. Please mail your forms to:
