This bulletin is a follow-up to the March 27-30, 2006, IMAP and CRP training for the 2006 Science Primary Adoption. We have included the information related to the adoption that you requested during the training.

This correspondence includes the following:

  2. A summary of tips for conducting the independent review (Attachment 1), by José Velasquez, Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials Commissioner (Curriculum Commission).
  3. Copies of citation forms for the legal and social compliance portion of your independent review.
  4. The Education and the Environment Initiative.
  5. The English–Language Arts Content Standards and the Mathematics Content Standards.
Q & A

A copy of the various questions and answers that were placed on the “Parking Lot” noteboard during the training will be sent out in a separate bulletin.

Receipt of Program Materials

Remember that the deadline for receipt of program materials at the address you provided during training was April 13, 2006. If you have not received your materials, please contact Jean James at 916-319-0444 or at jjames@cde.ca.gov. You should also contact Jean if any components are missing from your program or if you have extra components.

Standards Maps

Electronic copies of the Standards Maps provided by the publishers have been e-mailed to all panel members. Please contact Patrice Roseboom at 916-319-0509 or at proseboo@cde.ca.gov if you have not received them.

Note-Taking Guide

The Note-Taking Guide for the 2006 Science Primary Adoption can be found on the California Department of Education Web site at Instructional Materials [http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/sc/im/]. Remember that this document is for your personal notes and is not considered a public document. You may want to use the Note-Taking Guide to record citations, questions for the publishers, and minor edits and corrections you find in each program as you are reviewing it.

Legal and Social Compliance

Several blank citation forms for legal and social compliance are included with this letter. If you need additional forms, please contact Patrice Roseboom at 916-319-0509 or at proseboo@cde.ca.gov. Citations for the legal and social compliance portion of your review are due to CDE by June 16, 2006. Please mail them to:

Deliberations

Deliberations will be held in Sacramento from July 10–13, 2006. We will be sending another bulletin with travel information about a month prior to Deliberations; please do not make travel arrangements at this time. The Deliberations will be held at Capital Area East End Complex, 1500 Capitol Mall, and we have booked rooms at the Best Western Sutter House for individuals who live more than 50 miles from the site.

There will be an opportunity for each panel to ask questions of the publisher during deliberations. Please note questions on your Note-Taking Guide as you are reviewing the program. Remember also that recording accurate citations as you review will facilitate the deliberations process this summer.

If you have any questions regarding the information in this bulletin, please contact Patrice Roseboom, Lead Consultant for the 2006 Science Adoption, at 916-319-0509 or by e-mail at proseboo@cde.ca.gov, or Suzanne Rios, Administrator of the Instructional Resources Unit, at 916-319-0665 or by e-mail at srios@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Thomas Adams, Director
