California Department of Education (CDE), through the efforts of the Secondary,
Postsecondary, and Adult Leadership Division, has established a special partnership with CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association). The statewide educational partnership will allow all state high schools, adult education programs, community colleges, and Regional Occupational Centers and Programs (ROCPs) to become members of CompTIA's "Education to Careers" (E2C) program. The program is designed to recruit, train, certify, and help place new information technology employees.
Vendor neutral certification tests for CompTIA A+, Network+, i-Net+, Server+, Linux+, Security+, Project+, and RFID+ are available at significantly reduced prices as part
of the CompTIA E2C program for these exams:
- A+ certification indicates that the individual possesses the knowledge, skills, and customer-relations skills essential for a successful entry-level computer service technician. There are two tests required for the A+ certification: A+ Essentials Exam and one of the following, A+ IT Technician, Remote Support Technician, or Depot Technician exams.
- Network+ certification indicates the individual possesses the knowledge of network technicians. Many vendors currently accept the Network+ certification for parts of their existing certification requirements. There is one test for the Network+ certification covering the Knowledge of Networking Technology and Networking Practices.
- i-Net+ certification is designed for any individual interested in demonstrating baseline technical knowledge that would allow him or her to pursue a variety of Internet-related careers. The I-Net+ exam covers Internet basics, Internet clients, development, networking, net security and business concepts.
- Server+ certification is intended for technicians
who are responsible for hardware functionality of microcomputers
on a more sophisticated level than that of entry level, including
installation, support, and troubleshooting, as well as second
level support.
- Linux+ certification measures vendor-neutral Linux knowledge and skills for an individual with at least six months practical experience. The target market for Linux+ certification are individuals interested in demonstrating fundamental Linux knowledge and skills.
- Security+ certification validates knowledge of communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, operational security, and general security concepts.
- Project+ certification is the credential recognizing excellence in project management. Project+ validates the mastery of core project management skills, including conflict resolution, negotiation, communication, team building/leadership, and setting and managing expectations.
- RFID+ certification validates the knowledge and skills of professionals who work with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. It is an international, vendor-neutral credential that recognizes a technician's ability to install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot the hardware and software functionality of RFID products.
